Wigan and Bolton clashed following the full-time whistle in the Latics' 1-0 victory

Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers have been fined after a mass confrontation at the end of their League One fixture on 27 February.

Both clubs admitted that they failed to ensure their players did not behave in an improper way at the final whistle.

Tempers flared after the Latics beat promotion-chasing Bolton 1-0, leading to both sides being charged by the FA.

Wigan were fined £9,000 while Bolton were fined £2,500 after an independent regulatory commission hearing.

The commission foundexternal-link that Bolton had been "marginally more to blame for what happened" as the incident had been started by a Wanderers player as well as boss Ian Evatt approaching a Wigan player.

However, the fact that Wigan had previously been fined on four occasions for misconduct in the past five years led to their higher penalty in comparison to Bolton receiving the standard fine of £2,500.
