Lincoln City 1-2 Wigan Athletic

Play-off chasing Lincoln saw their 16-game unbeaten run ended by Charlie Hughes' last-gasp winner as Wigan claimed a 2-1 victory at the LNER Stadium.

The Imps looked well-placed to extend their impressive run even further having battled back from a goal behind.

Jonny Smith fired Latics into a welcome 20th-minute lead with his first goal since New Year's Day. The midfielder's sweet strike took a slight deflection as it flew into the bottom corner.

But Daniel Mandroiu levelled for the Imps five minutes before the break with a fine finish.

It was the Irish midfielder's first goal for nearly two months but it could not have come at a better time as the hosts found a way back into the contest.

Smith had an early effort saved, while at the other end Hughes rifled a right-foot shot just wide.

Thelo Aasgaard turned provider for Smith to open the scoring, before Mandroiu had a powerful shot saved.

Ben House went close before Mandroiu levelled and leading scorer Joe Taylor had a header saved on the stroke of half-time.

Jason Kerr headed wide for the Latics and Tom Pearce blasted over, but Hughes' stunning last-gasp volley saw the visitors take the points.

Good result against a decent team who'd been in good form. Big thing is we're mathematically safe: we can start looking to next season. I don't want to spend big money, but a handful of shrewd signings to compliment the great group of young players we've got, and we'll hopefully be looking up, not down, next year. As an aside, Lincoln is a really nice city and the locals are really sound folk.

Brave performance by the Imps against a good Wigan side. It could have gone either way, it’s not today’s results that will likely keep City out of the play offs, it was the results before Christmas. Lincoln’s performances since January have been excellent and provided tremendous entertainment. Let’s finish this season on a high and look forward to hopefully even better next season.

I always enjoyed the Latics "smash and grab" wins at tough in form teams. This wasn't one of them. They were worthy opponents from the start and gave Lincoln all they could handle. A little self confidence boost to look forward to next season. An impressive performance this time, everything considered.

The Imps denied a legitimate goal from a linesman 'guessing' the ball was out of play. That said the Imps were not at their best today against a well organised Wigan team.

Respect to the 648 ( got in there first Mutty ! )Wigan fans who made the trip with not a lot to play for. A few shrewd signings in the summer will add to what is already a very promising squad and make us real promotion candidates. Roll on next season.

And its good to hear some of them were doing a weekender, staying overnight in Lincoln, enjoying a very beautiful city (and a hill!) and then travelling back tomorrow via Castleford to cheer on the Warriors in the Challenge Cup. Lets hope for a double victory for sporting club Wigan this weekend.

Promising for next season, unless EFL find some excuse to deduct us points or give us another transfer embargo.

It can be a frustrating business watching your team but occasionally they produce a moment of magic that makes it all worthwhile - a case in point was Latics first goal yesterday - it really was a beautiful team goal with an exquisite finish. Great day.

Wigan looked a good team, but City were denied a point by a linesman guessing a ball had crossed the line for the disallowed goal.
