Nottingham Forest and QPR want to sign Wigan Athletic winger but face one big problem

Nottingham Forest and QPR want to sign Wigan Athletic’s Gavin Massey but may struggle as he wants to stay with the club according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old winger missed the start of the season due to an injury but since getting back to playing regular football he has been impressive, notably scoring twice in the last four games. This has been a big boost to Wigan as they are currently fighting against relegation and this form has helped them rise to 19th in the Sky Bet Championship.

But this form has been noted by some of Wigan’s Championship rivals. Both Nottingham Forest and QPR, the former being involved in a fight for the play-offs while QPR are trying to avoid being dragged into the relegation battle, are interested in signing Massey this summer. What helps is that Massey’s contract runs out in the summer so this could be a bargain should they be able to wrap this deal up.

But the problem that both of these sides face which could stop them from signing Massey is that he wants to stay at Wigan. While he may be forced to move should the Latics be relegated this season, Massey wants to stay at the DW Stadium and the club are now in talks with him over a new contract. So right now and barring any big changes, it does seem like he will be extending his stay in Lancashire rather than heading to the East Midlands or to West London.
