Swansea City are in the hunt for a new manager to replace Graham Potter, who left yesterday to join Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.
Their Under-23’s manager Cameron Toshack is the current favourite for the job on SkyBet and Newport County boss Michael Flynn is the second favourite, priced at 4/1. Other names in the race are Gary Rowett and Leon Britton.
Flynn, who is 38 years-old, is a highly-rated young boss and could fit the bill for Swansea. His Newport side will face Tranmere Rovers in the League Two Play-Off final this weekend for a place in the third tier next season.
He played for the likes of Wigan Athletic, Gillingham and Blackpool in his playing days and started his coaching career in the academy at Newport after retiring.
Flynn briefly left that role in 2015 and joined Welsh Division Two side Undy Athletic before returning to Rodney Parade as first-team coach under John Sheridan.
He got the manager’s job in March 2017 when Newport were 11 points adrift at the foot of League Two and managed to keep them up against the odds.
Flynn’s side then finished 11th last season and then got into the Play-Offs in this campaign, which shows a real progression over this two-and-a-half years at the helm.
He is certainly an option for Swansea and someone who they should consider. However, his concentration will be on getting Newport promoted this weekend before considering any departure.
