Wigan Athletic have announced their retained list ahead of the 2019/20 season on their official club website today.
The Latics have announced that Darron Gibson, Callum McManaman, Shaun MacDonald, Jonas Olsson, James Vaughan and Dan Lavercombe will all be leaving the DW Stadium.
They have offered new contracts to Owen Evans and Nick Powell, the latter of whom have been heavily linked with a move away to the likes of Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday.
Last seasons’ loanees Christian Walton, Antonee Robinson, Reece James, Beni Baningime and Leon Clarke have all returned to their parent clubs.
Wigan returned to the Championship last year after winning the League One title under Paul Cook. They finished 18th in the last campaign having flirted with relegation for a brief time. The North-West side will be hoping to do better next season and will be in the hunt for some new signings this summer.
Their retained list today hasn’t really sprung up any surprises as they needed to offload some players after the last campaign to balance the books.
Here is how their fans have reacted on Twitter to it-

Think that Retained List is bang on. Too many players with little/no input there. Get shut of Walker + Cole and rebuild. Busy important summer ahead #wafc

Think releasing Macca is a mistake but agree with the others #wafc https://t.co/Wgp6uudoA8

Expecting Cole to go we need at least 5 players there maybe even closer to 10 😂. #wafc pic.twitter.com/iKkRr11WZM
