Stoke youngster loaned to Portuguese side

Stoke youngster Josh Tymon has joined Portuguese top flight side FC Famalicao on a season-long loan the club has today confirmed.

The 20 year old joined The Potters from Hull City two years ago, but has only been able to make 7 first team appearances since his move from Humberside, with Stoke being relegated to the Championship in his debut season with them.

Although the move may look peculiar on paper, Tymon has previously worked with the coach the Portuguese side who are coached by Joao Pedro Sousa, who was number two to Marco Silva during his stint at Hull where he was highly rated as a potential prodigy.

In an interview with HullLive, the left back admitted that his move to Stoke had not worked out the way he had hoped, and that he may need to move on from the Bet365Stadium in order to further his career.

He stated, “The last two years haven’t worked out how I wanted them to so it’s only natural to wonder if you’ve done the right thing.” “This season has been the first time since I’ve been playing football when I’ve looked at it and wondered if I wanted to do something else with my life here. Is it going to work out?”.

Tymon found himself on the edge at Stoke under Gary Rowett, who appeared to show no interest in the left back before being sacked in January. Similarly, under Nathan Jones the left back started only once, and was hauled off at half time by the former Luton boss.

Hopefully this move will prove to be yet another success story for young British talent in Europe for a player who once rubbed shoulders with the likes of Phil Foden and Calum Hudson-Odoi.
